Our Story
My name is Carrie, and I make things in my garage.
Why? Well . . . it all started when I spent all my money on a house and had no money left to furnish it.
I had watched hundreds of hours of home reno TV shows, so I figured that if those trained professionals with huge behind the scenes crews could build beautiful things, so could I, right?
I started small, buying a circular saw, a drill and a few 2X4s and got to work. Terrified of the circular saw and 99% certain I would end up losing a limb or two, I fired up the saw and made a simple workbench in my garage.
Exhilarated by that first success and somehow still in full possession of all of the standard body parts, I dove in deeper and made myself a headboard, then a whole bedframe, and I was off to the (very slow and halting) races.
When I started suffering from symptoms of Multiple Sclerosis, I gave up on the hobby, figuring that I wouldn’t be able to continue. I sold most of my tools, and mentally moved on.
A few years and a couple of homes later, feeling physically stronger but still mostly broke, I dipped my toe back into the woodworking world and rediscovered my passion for making things. Shortly thereafter, MS decided it was time to show me who’s boss, and I had to take extended time off from work, and eventually had to cut back to part time hours.
During this time, I found that even though I could only muster strength and energy to do woodworking for about an hour a day, that one hour a day helped save my sanity and gave me something to look forward to. When I couldn’t get up off the couch, I could dream up designs, plan how to build them and research methods, tools and materials.
So here I am, trying to find a way to at least partially subsidize my hobby and share some of the things that I make with people who still have room in their homes (because I sure don’t!)
